Channel 10 Videos
Changing the way people feel in their living space to an uplifting experience is the essential mission of an interior designer. The extreme makeover hometown project featured locally by Channel 10 in the summer of 2008 started out as an opportunity for establishing my presence in the design industry in San Diego while also contributing my service to the neighborhood house association facility in southeast San Diego who provides many outreach programs in the community.
The senior center was the recipients of the extreme makeover where seniors come each day for a nutritious meal and to spend their time in a social and recreational surrounding.
The project was extensive aside from the major updates to the kitchen and bathrooms of the facility. The entry, office, dining room, tv and game room were all overflowing on top of one another with disconnect and clutter. The white walls throughout made for a very cold and dismal place to be in for these seniors everyday.
A desperate call for organization and redirecting of the traffic flow compelled me to contribute my design experience to help with this project. I became a part of the team and collaborated all the contributing businesses with the theme of the makeover, “Let’s cheer this place up and create an inviting place for these seniors to spend their days in.”
On the day of the reveal with the Channel 10 cameras capturing the moment, the staff and all the seniors who call this place a home away from home entered its doors with smiles and tears as they saw the transformation of their familiar space.
The rooms were bright and energized with color. Stimulating artwork and accessories with a blending of traditional and contemporary furnishings created simplified cozy spaces that functioned separately from one another.
I over heard one of the seniors say, “I can’t wait to come here everyday!”
A pretty good testimonial for all of us involved in this Channel 10 extreme makeover hometown NHA Senior Center.
