I do believe we are born with natural talents. It is up to us to share with others what comes inherently to us. When I discovered my ability to see a finished room with the perfect balance of color, texture and proportion I went after my passion to create unique and tantalizing environments out of the ordinary oblique spaces of everyday life. 

I have a Bachelor’s in Art with an emphasis in Interior Design from San Diego State University. My entire working life I have been involved in various aspects of design including floral design, visual merchandising, space planning in retail furniture showrooms, media advertising, photography, working with clients on design projects and home renovations. With my fine tuned skills in design I bring life to a room and fill your life with the pleasures of the unexpected at home. 

Anyone can be their own decorator. Placing furniture in a room adding your own touch and “viola!,” the room is done. This where the difference shows when you hire a professional interior designer. It is not aesthetics alone that make a fantastic setting. Does the room truly satisfy your inherent need for comfort and suitability? During your first meeting with the interior designer the parameters of the budget should be discussed to assure the designer is someone who can work within the budget you have allotted for your project. It is essential that the designer spends time learning your lifestyle patterns and integrates them in planning the function of your space.

Interior design professionals vary in education level and experience each. Degrees are obtained through Design Institutes and Universities. National organizations such as AID American Institute of Interior design, NSID National Society of Interior Designers and ASID American Society of Interior Design require members to meet specified criteria. Although, non-members are also highly proficient as interior designers, education and experience in the interior design field qualifies an expert in their profession.

To get a sense of a designer’s style, look at their portfolio with photos of homes and special projects. Ask for a list of the clients the designer has worked with who can share their experience and satisfaction with the designer.

Fees for an interior designer vary greatly, some charge an hourly rate while others base their fee on the entire project. When purchasing the materials and furnishings for your project most designers receive a trade discount and charge their clients the retail price plus a pre-arranged percentage for the designers out of pocket expenses for travel, sales tax, shipping, trucking, storage, the price for blue prints and renderings.

An installment of 1/3 is made at the beginning of the project another 1/3 after the estimate is provided for all the purchases and labor. The last installment of 1/3 is due upon completion.

While working with an interior designer all aspects of your re-design project will be overseen and executed by the designer. They will work closely with the contractors on the project to ensure all the work is being done according to plan.
